Remastered version of the 1990 side-scrolling action game in which the country has been taken over by Emperor Garuda. The player takes on the role of either Hayate or Kaede and must infiltrate the emperor’s stronghold and end his reign. In this remaster, the two ninja protagonists have been completely redesigned, and all the level scenes and enemies have been redrawn, while maintaining the 16-bit retro art style.

Rating issues

This game contains prominent use of alcohol. There is a menu in the game in which the player is able to purchase different items which will help them in gameplay and give health buffs. One of these items is a Tsunodaru, which is a barrel of sake. Once purchased, the player can be seen drinking this during gameplay for health boosts, including healing and temporary additional health points.

Other issues

This game features non-realistic violence towards human characters. When human characters are attacked, their bodies will flash in and out of frame while splashes of blood are seen. Enemies will then fly backwards before disappearing. Some of these characters can be heard yelling in pain just before they disappear. Similarly, fantasy creatures will also flash in a blast of light, and then disappear. If the player falls off of a platform, they will respawn in their last location with no visible blood or injuries. When the player is killed, several images are shown of the player in an almost-kaleidoscope pattern and the screen fades to red with GAME OVER.

This game features pictures and sounds likely to be frightening to young children. At the end of each round, the player will have to battle against a boss enemy. The designs of these characters are quite intimidating and some of them make “roaring” noises which may be scary to younger players.
