Real-time strategy game in which players take command of an explorer and a legion of Pikmin in order to rescue Captain Olimar. Players use the unique abilities of the tiny Pimkin creatures to solve puzzles, battle dangerous predators, and recover materials to level up your ship and explore new areas. Up to two players can join the adventure together and play against each other or compete against the computer.

This game features very mild forms of violence towards fantasy characters. The player fights enemies by throwing small creatures called Pikmin at them. Reactions do not feature visible harm.

One of the treasures the player is able to collect is a Venus-de-Milo-like statue that depicts breasts in a non-sexual context.
