This game features unrealistic combat between cartoon-like characters, some of whom are human-like, whereas others are more fantastical. The violence found in this combat is unrealistic and cartoon-like, as are reactions to the violence. For example, enemies disappear in puffs of smoke and leave coins behind when defeated.

The single-player game, ‘Bowser’s Fury’, contains instances in which a giant Bowser attacks a far smaller Mario. These instances are accompanied by ominous music, a dark setting and frantic action. The design of Bowser and the overall atmosphere may scare young children.
