The game places the player in the fictional post-Soviet Republic of Chernarus, where a mysterious plague has turned most of the population into violent “infected”. As a survivor, the player must scavenge the world for food, water, weapons, and medicine, while killing or avoiding zombies, and killing, avoiding, or cooperating with other players in an effort to survive the outbreak.

Rating issues

The strongest violence is self-inflicted, an in-game sub-menu provides a number of activities that the player’s character can be instructed to carry out, they are almost all quite benign except for the item entitled ‘suicide’. For no explicable reason the character can be made to commit suicide by a shot to the head using a handgun or rifle, impalement using a sword or pitchfork or using a diy spear consisting of a pole with a knife attached to one end that is pushed up through the throat and into the head.

Other issues

The game features scenes of smoking which are presented as a neutral activity.
