Enroute to wed his fiancée Luna on a road trip with his best friends, Prince Noctis is advised by news reports that his homeland has been invaded and taken over under the false pretence of a peace treaty – and that he, his loved one and his father King Regis, have been slain at the hands of the enemy.

This game contains infrequent depictions of realistic looking violence towards human-like characters. The majority of instances occur during the games cutscenes. Characters are shown being stabbed and shot whilst producing realistic reactions. Cries of pain can be heard as characters clutch at their wounds and blood effects appear. Realistic violence can also be found during battles, characters limp and stumble when injured.
