The human spaceships are clearly piloted by humans. You don’t see the actual pilot but the design of the ships, and the way the story is explained, it’s clear humans are inside. When your ships shield and hull are depleted, it explodes and you respawn at a check point.

The enemies in this game are alien and look the part. Ships range from alien space craft, to abstract forms. These aliens shoot with strange lasers and projectiles. When you’re hit by those projectiles your health and shields are slowly chipped away. Most aliens can be defeated with a few hits, or a missile. When this happens, they explode and leave a colourful explosion. Often items are left behind that upgrade your ship or repair your hull.
