Dialogue exchanges between the main characters, who are seen as still images, sets the scene for the events that are seen or played. In this part of the game the player’s only involvement is to use the next button to advance the text exchanges. During the verbal exchanges there is the use of the word ‘bastard’ and offensive language such as ‘ass’, ‘crap’, ‘bitches’ and ‘piss’.
The on screen text dialogue sections also brings to the fore moral issues such as should a character be saved or allowed to die, and whether to support other characters in their endeavours leading to victory or otherwise. As these deliberations are played through, the decision making process is reinforced by the use of graphic descriptions of injuries sustained by characters and the occasional image portraying an attack. For example, as part of the opening scene of the game, there is a still image in which the player’s character, who is seen in silhouette, is killed by a sword being plunged into his chest, the blade emerges from his back, and this is accompanied by some blood effects and cries of agony.
