The game has a storybook-like appearance and features a turn-based combat system, with opponents standing several feet away to fight and never actually striking each other. When hit, human characters will flinch, turning their bodies backwards, and a red or black ink spot effect will appear along with a number showing damage. There are no sounds of pain when this occurs, but there is a blood effect which will drip over the characters. When they die, human characters will disappear completely with a small ‘ugh!’ sound. There are some mild scary scenes, for instance when a child is wrapped in a giant spider’s web.
