This game contains moderate violence towards humans. Characters can die in a variety of ways, including by electrocution, drowning and being set on fire. However, all the deaths are presented in an exaggerated and unrealistic manner.

Contrary to later releases in ‘The Sims’ franchise, The Sims 1 uses ‘play’ as a euphemism for sexual intercourse. Two Sims can ‘play’ in a variety of objects such as beds or hot tubs. When Sims are “playing” in bed, they go under the covers and make suggestive noises. Sims can undress completely but any nudity is censored by a pixelated mosaic.
