The Town of Light concerns the past and present of a woman named Renée, who during the 1930s was incarcerated in a psychiatric hospital in Voletrra, in Tuscany.

Rating issues

The game’s still image cut scenes include an occasion in which the player’s character is subjected to sexual violence. The character is seen naked in a bath, the assailant has one arm wrapped around her body whilst groping and kissing her. The sub-title, spoken dialogue and images make it clear that she does not consent.

Other issues

The character has recurring flashbacks of her involvement in a lesbian relationship which is seen as monochrome images, none are explicit enough for an age rating above 16. Equally the game includes further sexual images which involve sexual intercourse, however there are no visible genitals. There are some still image cut scenes that show instances of self -harm where the player’s character stabs herself in the abdomen but it is not overly graphic as the moment when the scissors are pushed into her midriff is not seen, just the before and after.
